Our approach to sustainability is based on the social and environmental issues that we consider are most relevant to our operations and are of greatest interest or concern to our key stakeholders.
- Our actions must remain consistent with our four core beliefs:
- Global climate change is real, and presents a significant threat to our society, environment and economy.
- The energy sector is currently a major contributor to the causes of climate change, and must act to: limit emissions associated with energy production and storage; reduce the use of energy generated from fossil fuels; and drive the transition to alternative lower-emission energy forms over time.
- Leadership in the energy sector is vital as it is expected to be an enabler for other sectors trying to decarbonise (such as the electrification of transport).
- Natural gas will play a critical role in enabling a quicker and smoother transition to a lower carbon future.
We believe we must act now to drive forward our sustainability agenda which includes taking an active role in supporting the transition to a lower carbon future, considering climate change risks as part of running our business, providing employment opportunities, and contributing to local communities where we can.
